Zusammenfassung

Im Rahmen des Artikels werden Vorstellungen von Schülerinnen und Schülern der 9. Klasse allgemeinbildender Gymnasien in Baden-Württemberg zum Bruttoinlandsprodukt (kurz: BIP) als Wohlstandsmaß untersucht. Grundlage bilden problemorientierte Interviews, die in zwei Erhebungsphasen vor und nach der Corona-Pandemie durchgeführt und qualitativ inhaltsanalytisch ausgewertet wurden. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass Lernende ein Verständnis für Spannungsfelder zwischen den Konzepten BIP und Lebensqualität haben. Allerdings wird auch deutlich, dass Vorstellungen zu Rückkopplungseffekten des BIP auf immaterielle Dimensionen von Wohlstand und Lebensqualität sowie zu Aggregationsmaßen, die der Berechnung des BIP zu Grunde liegen, kaum bzw. nicht vorhanden sind.

Abstract

This article examines ninth-grade high school students' beliefs of gross domestic product as a measure of prosperity. It is based on problem-oriented interviews conducted in two survey phases before and after the COVID-19 pandemic, which were evaluated using qualitative content analysis. The results show that students have an understanding of the tensions between the concepts of gross domestic product (short: GDP) and quality of life. This is attributable, among other things, to the decoupling of GDP and quality of life from the learners' perspective. However, this also makes clear that beliefs regarding feedback effects of GDP on intangible dimensions of prosperity and quality of life, as well as regarding the aggregate measures underlying the calculation of GDP, are hardly present or entirely absent.
